5 Tips to Keep Your Dog’s Teeth Clean & Breath Fresh

Your furbaby’s oral health is a gateway to their overall health, which is why it’s extra important to pay attention to their teeth and breath.

Unfortunately, many dogs will experience plaque and tartar buildup. When left unattended for long, these can lead to halitosis, periodontal disease and tooth decay.

The good news is that you can prevent periodontal disease (and subsequently, other diseases) from happening with a few additions to their diet and healthy dental habits!

Keep your dog’s teeth clean and breath fresh by following these five tips:

    1. Feed them a raw diet

A raw diet consists of offal, muscle meat, raw eggs, apples, vegetables, and some dairy like yoghurt. Not only does raw food give your dog clean teeth, it also promotes shinier coats, higher energy levels, and healthier skin.

    2. Give them probiotics

Periodontal disease interrupts your dog’s oral flora. Probiotics contain live gut-dwelling microbes that can help minimise oral disruption. You can give your dog unsweetened yoghurt which is packed with probiotics (but as with everything, consult your vet first).

    3. Include raw carrots in their diet

Frozen carrots are great dental aids as they gently scrape the teeth, preventing plaque buildup. Plus, they’re low in calories and fat, and rich in fibre, beta-carotene, and vitamin A!

    4. Brush their teeth

Like humans, dogs need their teeth brushed too! Make sure to use a toothbrush and toothpaste that’s made specifically for dogs, and start slowly as soon as your dog is relaxed. Try to brush when they’re tired so they won’t be too anxious, aggressive or active.

    5. Reward them with dental chews

Supplement your brushing efforts with dental chews! Dental chews can help clean your dog’s teeth by giving them the freedom to do what they do best – chew! Our selection of dental chews can also freshen their breath.
