What Is The BARF Dog Diet?

Like humans, dogs need a balanced diet. And the best way they can get their daily fix of essential nutrients is through a BARF diet, also known as “biologically appropriate raw foods” or “bones and raw foods.”

The BARF diet has a lot of benefits, such as being able to have full visibility over the quality of the ingredients that make up your pet’s diet. It also promotes healthy aging, supports healthy immune system functions, and promotes healthy metabolism.

But what should you feed your pup, and how much of each food should they have to give them the right amount of nutrition?

Or to summarise, what exactly does a balanced raw food diet for adult dogs look like?

A balanced homemade raw food diet looks like:

    • 70% lean muscle meat from beef, poultry, and other sources. These delicacies include hearts, lungs, spleens, tripe, tongues, etc.

    • 10% organs like spleens, kidneys, and brains, with at least 4% liver

    • 10% bone with cartilage, which is rich in collagen and absorbable calcium content

    • 10% plant matter and other vitamin-rich ingredients like turmeric, kale, carrots. Steer clear of avocados, onions, raisins and grapes, which can be toxic to dogs.

    In A Nutshell,

A balanced BARF diet looks different for every dog, but the idea is that it’s composed of the key essential nutrients they need to function daily.

Keep in mind that the portions are different for growing puppies. You can talk to your veterinarian, especially when coming up with a feeding plan that’s perfectly suited for your furkid.
